We’re bursting with pride over the results of the 2012 red dot product design awards. Wonder if you can guess why?

Each year, the red dot product design awards recognize outstanding designs for products with innovative and visionary design qualities. These awards have existed since 1955 and serve to highlight some of the best and brightest product designers across many industries.

The competition over this coveted recognition is always fierce. In 2012, 1,800 companies and designers from 58 countries submitted a staggering 4,515 designs for consideration in the 19 different categories. The international jury tasked with deciding the winners had their hands full.

We can’t help but brag that the red dot awards recognized several outstanding products created using the PTC suite. Of course, it makes sense: with access to the best 3D CAD software available, the brightest minds in product design are able to produce work that manages to be both extremely innovative and intensely practical.

Braun: The cruZer Beard & Head Beard trimmer (Bathrooms, Spa and Air
Conditioning)

“The compact and elegantly designed device is appealing due to its successful functionality. It is easy to operate and very uncomplicated with regard to every type of styling."

Philips: The Parq mobile ultrasound imaging system (Life Science and Medicine)

“The jury praised the device’s compact design and flexibility, thanks to which it also fits into small spaces and can be used anywhere it is needed, such as at the patient’s bed"

Logitech: The Wireless Solar Keyboard (Computers and Information Technology)

“This keyboard frees the user of the necessity of having to use a power supply or rechargeable batteries, resulting in a high degree of freedom and mobility. The jury was also convinced by its eco-friendly concept: its use of renewable energy avoids environmentally harmful waste in the form of depleted batteries.”

Hewlett-Packard: The HP Deskjet 3070A Printer (Computers and Information
Technology)

"This printer convinced the jury with its coherent design and the generous, smooth surfaces. The easily accessible control panel is form-fitted between housing and cover.”

Lenovo: The IdeaPad U300s (Computers and Information Technology)

“The minimalist design of the notebook housing creates an elegant appearance. The aluminium casing renders a high-quality impression and creates pleasant haptics.”

Bombardier Recreational Vehicles: The  BRP Can-Am Outlander (Automobiles, Transportation, Commercial and Water Vehicles)

“This off-road vehicle stands out due to its contemporary and independent design, which renders a robust impression and underlines the professionalism of the vehicle.”

iRobot: The Scooba 230 Floor Washing Robot (Households)

“The functionality of the iRobot Scooba 230 meets user demands and, with its high practical value, the robot appropriately provides for more comfort.”

Festo: The DHDG Adaptive Gripper (Industry and Crafts)

“The intelligent symbiosis of smooth, reliable functionality and high demand on the design impressed the jury.”
